Excel Alternatives is Orange County’s alternative education program that gives students a second chance at success. Excel delivers an early intervention strategy for “hardest to serve” elementary students whose behavior warrants removal from the traditional school campus, per policy or pre-emptive placement. Current educational research supports findings that such intervention at the elementary school age level may build a better foundation of readiness for a student to return to their traditional campus after an appropriate program placement.

The program begins with a comprehensive multi-systemic behavioral and academic evaluation to determine needs and develop an Individual Academic Plan for each student. Excel delivers curriculum through a “traditional classroom” approach and supplements this delivery with support from computer-assisted-instructional (CAI) programs, experiential and thematic learning. A significant focus of the curriculum is remediation of reading.

Students attending Excel are referred by zoned school administration for District Administration level consideration for placement.
